Welcome to the blog. My name is Ace or as some may know me on YouTube - Swing4TheRing. I aim to help both the would-be pirate as well as the everyday treasure hunter who has an interest in the hobby of metal detecting. Who’s ready to get dirty?

The Best All-Around Metal Detector

The Best All-Around Metal Detector

Having 17+ years of metal detecting experience, I have learned and experienced a lot about the hobby.  Within that time, I have spent the last 10 years searching for more than just treasure.  I have been on the hunt for the best all-around metal detector and I can now say I have found it.  The Garrett AT Pro is hands down, the best all-around metal detector on the market today.

Ease Of Use

The Garrett AT Pro wins my vote when it comes to the category of ease of use.  Attach the search coil, insert (4) AA batteries and you can turn on and go in to the fields (or water), straight out of the box with the push of a single button as you begin your search for the “Holy Grail.”

I personally enjoy the screen display which includes a helpful diagram of possible targets that correspond to the digital display numbers that show up on the screen for every target I scan the coil over.

The Garrett AT Pro control interface is easy to read and navigate even for the newest of treasure hunters.

For anyone new to metal detecting, this feature makes it very easy to understand what the metal detector is trying to tell them in relation to what is underneath their coil.  This is especially helpful in case they are not familiar with the sounds that the metal detector is making as it scans across the ground.

Because the AT Pro is so easy to setup and use, I have increased the total number of my metal detecting finds as I am spending less time going thru settings and options in a display menu and more time doing what is important… DETECTING or as some would say, “keeping your coil to the soil!”  I have already dug 6 or 7 targets before my friends have even begun to dig their first as they’ve wasted so much time trying to fine tune their own detectors.

“Pro” Level Detecting

Serious detectorists use serious detectors.

Serious detectorists use serious detectors.

Now don’t mistake the AT Pro’s ease of usability as being a “kid’s detector.”  I mean, they don’t call it a “Pro” for nothing!  In fact, this machine would be considered a “prosumer” level metal detector.

It would be a serious equipment upgrade even for an experienced detectorist who is looking for a new detector and wants to expand the capabilities of what their machine can do.

I love the looks and turned heads I get as I hit the beach and go from detecting the dry sand to walking straight in to the water with the AT Pro.

People are amazed that I can fully submerge the detector as well as the electronic control box which is also waterproof up to 10ft!  You can’t just do that with any old detector because most are not waterproof.

Because of this, beachgoers always ask me if a detector like that costs a few thousand dollars and if I detect for a living.

Affordability

When it comes to retail prices of metal detectors, the sky is the limit as there are machines out there that easily cost between $1000-$7500 and this keeps many people out of the hobby.  But what if I told you that you can get a brand new Garrett AT Pro from Kellyco Detectors for under $600?  The money you would save sure could buy a lot of Thai curry… 55 gallons worth to be exact!

I had used my AT Pro at a swimming area and within two weeks of searching there on various occasions, I found over $2500 in gold and silver rings in the water (Pro level detecting) which of course paid for the detector as well as the very computer that I am writing this article on! Had I not had a waterproof machine, I never would have been able to recover that underwater treasure.

Build Quality

I’ver personally used my AT Pro in some rugged terrain and it has never failed me.

The AT Pro is a very well-built, solid machine that can certainly take a beating.  When dealing with anything electronic, it is usually safe to say that you need to be careful and gentle with that item, but I’ve put my AT Pro through it’s paces over the years.

I have traveled internationally to Canada, Mexico, and even Italy to metal detect and the AT Pro survived the flights, the bumps and bruises from baggage claim, and the extreme pressure changes during the flight.

Because I was able to bring my AT Pro to Mexico, I was able to help this couple find their lost wedding ring out in the water!

It is lightweight and I am able to toss it in the trunk or even a back pack because it breaks down quite nicely to offer maximum portability, hence why I was able to travel with it so much.

Even with a solid block of ice around the control box during a winter treasure hunting expedition, the AT Pro continued to perform in the harshest of conditions!

With hundreds of hours in the water detecting with the AT Pro, some of which were during the winter months and I actually turned the control box in to a frozen, solid block of ice, it continued to perform flawlessly.  This machine is battle tested and I never feared, because I knew the best all-around metal detector was here!
